Litchfield Park Real Estate

Located just 16 miles west of downtown Phoenix is a small city just over three square miles called Litchfield Park. Founded in 1916 and named after its founder, Paul Litchfield of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Litchfield later incorporated in 1987. The Goodyear Tire company had purchased the areas now known as the cities of Goodyear and Litchfield Park as fields for growing Egyptian cotton. The cotton was primarily used for creating tire cords. Development for residential use in master-planned communities in Litchfield Park began in the 1960’s. According to the 2000 census, Litchfield Park has a population of over 3800 people.

The Wigwam Resort has won many awards for its outstanding amenities and service and provides approximately 700 jobs to the local community. This popular resort was initially a private resort for Goodyear executives but opened to the public in 1929. The resort maintains a 75-acre desert oasis complete with restaurants, lush landscaping, and three golf courses.

The Wildlife World Zoo is a popular attraction in Litchfield Park and brings visitors from all over the metro area. The zoo’s giraffe feeding area is always a hit with both children and adults. The zoo contains Arizona’s largest collection of exotic animals in very natural surroundings. From bats to penguins to kangaroos to white tigers, you’re sure to enjoy the journey of seeing the over 2400 individual animals living at the Wildlife World Zoo.

There are miles of tree or plant-lined paths in the city for walking, jogging, or biking. In fact, Litchfield Park was designated Tree City, USA. Residents can also enjoy the local library and recreation center with pools, tennis courts, and a multi-purpose center. Just two miles north of Litchfield Park sits Luke Air Force Base which is the largest training center in the world for F16 fighter pilots.

Many residential communities with a Litchfield Park address may actually be located in the county or “unincorporated” area of Litchfield Park. This simply means that the Litchfield Park post office services these areas, but services such as police and water would be provided by the county or a private company instead of the city. Some wonderful communities located just outside the actual city limits include Bel Fleur, Dreaming Summit, Wigwam Creek, and Veranda.

With the feel of a small town, local amenities, excellent schools, and proximity to other major cities within the Phoenix metro area, it’s no wonder that the city of Litchfield Park and the surrounding residential communities have been a great place to call home.
